Radio for the Ghosted
Ayush Pradhan
Static snows softly across the channels at midnight.
Between the land of the living and the souls taken flight,
Spectral station DED666 opens ethereal portals.
From phantom frequencies, the ghosted call mortals.
Uncanny calls from uncrossable seas and unreachable lands,
Asking and hoping and wishing on otherworldly wavebands.
One man cries out unavenged murder grim,
Another greets his dog still waiting on the porch for him.
“I miss the scent of coffee and mellow music at noon,”
An astronomer whispers “Star gazing, the planets, the moon!”.
A gambler says “Put a nickel on the Cubs for me!”
Voices share memories sweet, sad, and fiery.
A long-ago bride hums her old wedding tune,
Wife hopes husband takes his medicine at noon.
Names and places murmured with laughter and grief,
Confessions and secrets bared in relief.
When dawn breaks, one final message flows:
“Tell them we still love them.” Then the station softly goes.
Parting echoes dwindle down, radio silence falls,
Closing portals to liminal realms and their ghostly calls.
